September at Penally Abbey

September at Penally Abbey

September has well and truly arrived, bringing with it the cool winds from across the Atlantic.

Although traces of summer still linger, Autumn is certainly on the horizon, giving us an opportunity to reflect on the incredible summer we have just had!

In July, we celebrated 2 years since taking over the hotel in 2014. Whilst sharing a beautifully made cake with our wonderful staff to celebrate, we felt slightly overwhelmed about how far we, our staff and the building itself, has come. Our team really is the heart of the business, and without their constant support (and humour!) we wouldn’t be where we are today. For that, they must be thanked profusely.

The Courtyard

The most exciting thing to happen in last few months-- aside from Wayne our head of maintenence getting engaged, and a very unexpected nomination for 'Outstanding New Hotel'-- is that our Courtyard is finally being put to good use!

We have had weddings, hen do's, family dinners, recitals, yoga classes, training courses and numerous other events which has given us a clear indication of just how flexible it can be. To say that we are excited for the prospects it holds is an understatement!

Here are a few photos to show just how gorgeous it looks...

This fantastic, versatile space is now open for bookings. Whether it's private dining, events, parties or pretty much anything you can think of (within reason obviously!) we can plan it here.

Now don't close this blog because I've said it, but the word 'Christmas' will start floating into conversation, as it is most definitely on the horizon. This past week I have been busy finalising Christmas menus with head chef Paul, and taking Christmas party bookings with a slight air of hesitation. Even New Year is almost fully booked! Surely it is too soon!? However in this industry, it isn't soon enough.

So, whether ready to accept it or not, we are now plunging head-first into the Autumn season and all that goes with it.

I have summarised a couple of things to keep an eye out for, both here at Penally Abbey and in Pembrokeshire, to keep those post-summer blues at bay!

p.s if you do want to vote for us to win 'Outstanding New Hotel' by the Independent Hotel Show, you can here:

VOTE FOR PENALLY ABBEY.

(Two years ago I walked around this show with Melanie and Lucas in a little bubble of fear and excitement - fear being the main emotion. We had no experience and were completely out of our depths. With this in mind, you can imagine it is a very sentimental award for us to be even nominated for two years on.)
